ABOUT
Born in 1994, Yu Shao Lo is an artist from Taiwan and an alumnus of the Central Saint Martins College, University of the Arts London. He primarily works with site-specific installations. His practice focuses on space and audience engagement, exploring the relationship between art and the environment, as well as the connection between humans and nature. He has exhibited artworks in Taiwan, the UK, and Latvia.
Most of his artworks are site-specific and conceptual. In many cases, the entire space and exhibition context become inseparable parts of the artworks. Therefore, some artworks can encompass the whole room or extend outside the exhibition space. Unconventional spaces are preferable for his art practice, such as factories and public spaces. His artworks are often installed in unpredictable places, such as the floor, window, or ceiling, creating an unusual perspective.
Natural elements are common in his artworks. It is not difficult to find ideas inspired by animals and plants. In addition, natural phenomena, such as daylight, water, and seasonal transitions, also play a key role in his practice. Through these artworks, the artist aims to explore the relationship between art, nature, and the public.
Audience engagement is another feature of his art practice. The artist creates an art experience that requires the audience to explore and sometimes interact. Most artworks are touchable and made with simple materials available in daily life, such as paper and plastic, allowing for an intimate experience for the viewer.
In conclusion, Yu Shao Lo's art practice is not limited to any specific media or form. However, the main concerns remain consistent. The artist transforms personal insight from the surrounding environment into exhibitions in a poetic way, creating a special experience for the audience.
